Why Not? (About Page)

I'm not a reenactor. Why? Because I am not part of the problem, because I promote alternative forms of historical education, because I am a Living Historian.

This blog exists to let me rant and rave about all of the shortcomings of what I call the "Reenacting Society." Reenactors are the people who I respect in that they volunteer their time and money to accurately representing lost cultures, communities, or history. However, reenactors have gone too far to the point of hurting themselves and ruining the potential and the reputation of living history.

Living History is an amazing tool for education. It inspires, it teaches, and most importantly, it shows the world that historical education is not limited to the dry textbooks and uninspired powerpoints given by the majority of school history teachers. It also provides an alternative to the "Don't Touch" of most museums, and instead provides a great combination of hands-on and history!

The Reenacting Society is ruining this potential with a million different reasons, by ignoring professional education.

In this blog I will post examples of how the Reenacting Society is killing itself and the occasional independent rant about various reenacting or living history topics.

In the end, I love reenactors, reenactments, and reenacting, but c;mon guys! Take a step back and look at what you're doing!

If you disagree with my thoughts, I would love to have a calm and intelligent discussion with you.
